Boosting Output with Smart Design: Boise Cascade Dryer #3 Upgrade

Boise Cascade Wood Products’ facility in Havana, Florida continues to modernize and scale its veneer drying operations with the installation of a second new Westmill 4-deck jet dryer — this time replacing the original Dryer #3.

Increased Capacity Through Better Design

The original Dryer #3 utilized 16 hot sections, but with Westmill’s engineering expertise, the replacement dryer was upgraded to:

  • 20 hot sections
  • 3 cooling sections
  • Distributed across 3 drying zones

This boost in drying capacity gives the mill the ability to easily meet — and even exceed — its targeted dried veneer production volumes, without compromising efficiency or product quality.

Built for Performance and Efficiency

In addition to expanded capacity, this dryer features several of Westmill’s patented design elements, including:

  • Seal-welded, insulated stainless steel floor panels for superior heat retention
  • A fully seal-welded and insulated hotbox
  • Westmill’s industry-leading, patented door system designed for durability and long-term serviceability

Together, these features contribute to better energy efficiency, tighter process control, and extended equipment lifespan.

Delivering Long-Term Value

This marks the second new Westmill dryer installed at the Havana site — reinforcing Boise Cascade’s commitment to investing in advanced, reliable production equipment. For Westmill, it’s another example of how thoughtful design and proven technology can help our customers meet growing production goals while reducing operational costs.
